Sal! pa' SoFo Culinary Festival Time-Lapse

Here's a pretty slick little video showing how crowded Calle Fortaleza gets during the SoFo Old San Juan Culinary Festival. In this excellent video you are looking down Calle Fortaleza looking out onto Plaza Colón. The white dome in the background is the El Capitolio.

I like how the light in the upstairs apartment in the lower right hand corner keeps flicking on and off. I wonder what it would be like to live in that apartment and have thousands of people partying right beneath you window all weekend long.

The Men of Playgirl

We've come along way Puerto Rico. I imagine that just a few decades ago this type of show would never have graced our show, but today from Sexo Expo to the Male Reveu of the Men of Playgirl, you have to admit that attitudes are changing. I personally blame Reggaeton, but don't get me started.

Yes, ladies and let's not forget gentlemen, direct from Las Vegas, Matrix Events is bringing to Puerto Rico the premier ladies night experience. In a style unseen before, this show will combine choreography, elaborate costume, comedy, with singing and acrobatic dancing.

While this show has been seen before millions of women in more than 25 countries, including presentations on VH1, MTV, HBO and GQ Magazine, I'm still left wondering about one thing? Do chicks really dig the whole macho rugged cowboy look? I mean really?

Tickets are available from TicketCenter, and are priced at $73.00, $58.00, and $43.00. The show will take place ath the Centro de Convenciones de Puerto Rico at 8:00 PM next Friday, September 7th.

¿Quieres ser bartender?

Your future as a bartender?Starting on August 18th and running for 20 consecutive Saturdays, you have an opportunity to learn how to be a bartender. This is a complete course, does that include crowd management classes, for bartenders and classic and contemporary aficionados.

The classes, which are four hours in duration each, will show participants how to serve cordials, liquors, beer, distilled spirits, and wine. In addition, the classes teach about the finer aspects of table service at the level of "Fine Dining". I'm guessing this is how to let the patron sniff the cork and stupid shit like that.

The classes will be taught by international bartender Ramón González. No previous experience is necessary. To obtain more information you can call (787) 250-1797 or (787) 615-1796.

Heineken Beat Beach - A Greenworld Event

Beat BeachTonight, Heineken and Mendez & Co, inc. (distributors of Heineken in Puerto Rico) kick-off their sensationally creative Heineken Green World series of events. The events will take place once a month, starting in June, and culminate in the annual Heineken Monster's Ball in October.

All of the events are introduced by the following sentiment: What is the desire that entertainment fulfills?

  • We want to be touched emotionally, be viscerally moved, perhaps have our minds challenged, or at best blown.
  • We want to travel to a different place when we enter the world of a storyteller.
  • Some call it escape, others call it experience.
The first of these events, the Heineken Beat Beach is described as:
"As the sun goes down, the night heats up with the alluring sounds of the Heineken Beat Beach. The perfect blend of atmospheres, scenery, and good vibes takes over one of the most beautiful beaches in Puerto Rico."
DJ Junkie XL will be providing the entertainment for the event. Junkie XL, aka Tom Holkenborg is already a star in his own right in Holland. His performances are described like:
"Tom Holkenborg is alone on stage, jumping and humping his desk, unrolling a vast set of densely packed progressive trance, and the Dutch kids absolutely adore him. Tom's energy is focused energy - he knows the game on stage, he's played between The Primals and The Prodigy - and is genuinely transported when he's up there, controlling the crowd. Like listening to the Chemicals live, you have to surrender yourself to the sound to fully appreciate what's going on."
For a taste of Junkie XL:

Other events planned are Wonder Valley, Skyline, Fantasy Island, Starship, and conclude with the Monster's Ball.

UNIQUE at Galaxy Lanes

Rock and BowlThis Friday night at Galaxy Lanes in Plaza Las America, Medalla Light presents UNIQUE. I believe this is the first major concert to be held in the new Galaxy Lanes. In concert will be Fiel a la Vega, Millo Torres and El Tercer Planeta. The doors open 8:00 PM and a casual elegant attire is recommended. Tickets are $12.00 before the day of the show, and $15.00 on Friday.

I'd have to agree, I think it is unique to host a concert in a bowling alley. It brings a whole new slant to Rock and "Roll your ball you idiot we're getting tired of waiting back here". I can hear it now. During a slow song when Millo is trying to inject a little soul feeling into a song, BAM! pins scatter sounding like a little explosion, and then someone yells "Diablo mano, si tu eres. Tu eres". Doesn't that sound like something unique?

This Thurdsay, March 15th, from 9:00 p.m. until 2:00 a.m. The Arena Pier 10 will join 10 other countries to form the largest simultaneous Latin American party. The screens will also enable the interchange of text messages. Entrance to the event is by invitation only, and with an invitation everything will be free of cost, including the bar. Once again I ask "How do you get an invitation to these darn things?"
