I hear what you're saying. I tried very hard to communicate something that I FEEL and I PERCEIVE. I'm sure that you can agree, perception is what we mostly accept to be reality. You may be right, maybe I do live in a bubble.

ll, apparently you ARE living in a bubble. I am Popular as is all my family for generations... no independence thoughts at all. Stats and facts is what counts... not what others THINKS is in someones else's mind.
If we say we would be OK as independent in front of someone who happens to believe in that... it is ONLY because we are trying to be nice and sympathethic to their beliefs. NOTHING MORE. And that is why I see so many independentistas swear that more people are behind them.
It is just a very loud few.

Jacobo Morles once said something like, "It's a good think that Puerto Rico doesn't sell alcohol on election day, otherwise more people would vote with their heart instead of their mind (read pocketbook)."

I'm convinced that there DOES exist a silent majority that would love nothing more than Puerto Rico to be "free," whatever that means. I'd even go so far as to say that the Popular Democratic Party is mostly made of acerolas. People who become red because they know that they can't stay green. In other words, I believe that most Populares really want Puerto Rico to be independent.

Of course the free Puerto Rico I'm referring to is that magical fantasy world where everything stays the same, except we're independent.

If you ask me, I think that an honest choice between statehood and independence would be a lot closer than most people think. It would all come down to the "definition" of those two status options.

Anyway, whether it shows up in the polls or not, since I'm a walking talking symbol of the United States of America, I can only share what I FEEL. I may be paranoid, but that still doesn't mean that most Puerto Ricans I encounter don't treat me as an equal, merely because I remind them of what they can not have.

Actually, I do not believe that 5% of the population who would love to see PR completely separated from the USA represents a mayority.
Last I heard, people following the two largest political parties still want to stay tied to the USA.
